HYROX is unusually beginner-friendly. Finishing comfortably and finishing well are separated by about twelve weeks of the right work — and most people spend those weeks doing the wrong work harder.
Already running and lifting twice a week? Eight to twelve weeks is genuinely enough. Starting from very little? Give it sixteen and expect the first four to be about consistency, not performance.
Under six weeks is a finish, not a race. That is a perfectly good first goal — just be honest about which one you are training for.
If your easy days are not easy, your hard days cannot be hard.
You end up with a week of medium, building fatigue instead of fitness. It feels like discipline, which is exactly why it is hard to give up.
Practise the stations at the load you will actually meet.
Training a movement light and meeting it heavy on race day is how people end up walking a sled push in front of a crowd.
Rehearse moving straight from run to station and back.
Two to four minutes is a normal amount to lose standing still. It is the cheapest time on the course and it requires no fitness at all.
One or two full simulations in an entire block. Not weekly.
Racing your training does not make you faster. It makes you tired and slightly injured by race day.
It is also the hardest to programme for yourself. Come do one in a room that already runs them.
Book A Free Class →Enter Open for a first race — lightest loads, no qualification, and where the overwhelming majority of the field races. Doubles is gentler still if you have somebody to race with, because you split the station volume.
Loads and divisions are set per season and do change. Confirm current standards on hyrox.com before you register.
Cut volume, keep intensity, add nothing new. No heroic final session, no testing a one-rep max, no first attempt at a simulation.
Practise the race-day routine instead — the breakfast, the warm-up, the shoes. Boring, and worth more than another hard session.
We will tell you honestly whether the timeline is realistic. No card, no sales tour.
Book A Free Class →Reading is the easy part. If you want this coached instead of self-directed, Maverick (men) and ATHENA (women) are our online teams — a real roster and a coach who answers you, not a template you follow alone.
You have read how it should be done. This is what it actually looks like written out — four days of real FTX programming, the same work our members did last week.
